Limerick Animal Hospital

Client: Limerick Animal Hospital

Project: Addition and Renovation

Construction Challenge: Over the 50 years of
its existence, the animal hospital had built
fourteen additions. The result was a hodgepodge
of rooms that had no access corridors, egress
routes, etc. Work flow was severely hampered
by the maze of interconnected rooms. While
more space was necessary, it was also vital
to solve the circulation problems in the
existing areas and bring the entire building
up to code.

Architectural Solution: After conducting
thorough interviews to determine optimal
work flow, a major reconfiguration of space
was designed. New hallways were integrated
into the existing structure to connect the
various work spaces and to provide easy access
to the lobby and direct egress to the outside.
By re-purposing already existing space, the
general treatment area was expanded to add
a much-needed surgery room. A new addition
was then put on to serve as a boarding facility
for pets.
